About Solar Drift

by Martin A. Hale

“All that Space out there but there’s no space, not anymore, not for us rats.” Gayle Rangan, Greaser of the transport Achilles.

The year: 2430.  The earth is a shattered husk – depleted of its natural and mineral resources and from a colonial war twenty years past. Humankind, overpopulated, clings to antiquated space stations, mining bases and colonies scattered across the Solar System from Mercury to the Oort cloud. Interstellar space travel is a dream lost some 200 years ago with the colony fleet that left for a nearby habitable system, it took with it the best and brightest to start anew elsewhere but they were never heard from again.  Now the Solar System is in a dark-age controlled by corrupt mega-corporations, puppet governments and warlords intent on carving themselves a patch of space.

Enter Gayle Rangan, a down-and-out Greaser looking for a quite place to lay low for a while. Fate has other plans for him however as he falls in with the captain of a rust-bucket transport vessel, Meron Landar. She has a chip the size of an asteroid on her shoulder and trouble like a meteor shower.

The ride is going to get rough, so get into your environment suit and strap yourselves in!
